EYEBROW TATTOO HEALING PROCESS
Day of service: It’s really normal for your brows to feel tight, tender or similar to sunburn. Your brows will look warmer (more red/orange) than they will heal as you're seeing the ink in open, irritated skin, and not underneath healed skin which acts as a filter against the ink.
Days 2 - 5: Your brows will start to look darker as the thin protective film develops (not a scab). They will not heal this colour so do not panic! Leave the film alone – picking will cause irritation, can cause scarring and will lift colour from the skin resulting in unevenness and blank spots. The film will stay intact for a few days and will start flaking away when the skin underneath is ready.
Days 6 - 10: The film will start peeling by itself and can make the area feel itchy. Try not to scratch or pull the film off prematurely.
Days 10 - 14: Once the film has fully lifted the ink implanted will look around 50% lighter, will have neutralised now that your skin is sat over the top of it, and the shape / hairstrokes may have also shrank in size slightly. Your brows currently have healing skin over them which is thicker than ‘normal’ skin, and this will be somewhat masking what you can see.
Although you will feel as though your brows are healed at this point, they’re not quite there yet. Please treat the area with care for the next 4 weeks as your skin is still regenerating and needs time to settle down.
Weeks 4 - 6: As your healing skin settles down you should notice the colour blooming and some definition returning. The colour will probably still feel a little light as you were used to having such dark brows for that first week, but this is what the top up is for. If you liked your brows when you left the first appointment (shape, colour, style etc.), we will do the exact same thing again at your touch up. It’s always easier to add more ink and go darker at the top up, than it is to reverse going too dark at your first session.
After your touch up: The ink usually holds better as we are building on top of that first layer of in. Your brows won’t fade as much and will feel and look healed quicker than the first time.

It’s important to wait until your eyebrows are properly healed before making a final judgement about them. This treatment is a two-step process requiring patience (with some clients needing a second touch up) to get the full desired look, which won’t be achieved until both sessions are complete and healed.
Healing is specific to each client and it’s important to realise that you’ll need a colour boost every 9 / 12 / 18 / 24 months to maintain the vibrancy of your eyebrows depending on your skin type and lifestyle. Permanent makeup is an art, not a science, and is an enhancement to your natural brows. Your results will vary and brow products may still be needed, especially when wearing make up. This is not necessarily a no maintenance treatment, but a low maintenance treatment. No two sides of the face are the same or perfectly symmetrical and whilst trying to obtain perfect symmetry is my goal, nothing is guaranteed or 100% perfect.
Cosmetic tattooing is generally softer and less solid than a body tattoo as we are trying to keep it lighter and more natural. Specially formulated cosmetic inks that can break down over time are used, as over the years this ages better and allows for changes. This, combined with the fact that faces are generally oilier than other parts of the body, and that faces are usually more exposed to UV rays, environmental pollutants, products such as make up, cleansers & exfoliants, is why top ups are required over the years.
